Your Daily Writing Prompt for July 22, 2020

it’s Wednesday – time for “Who Dis” Wednesday, meaning that we’ve got a character-driven prompt for you!

A note on pronouns: In order to be both respectful and to allow you to consider a wider range of possibilities for writing, we try to rotate through a variety of pronouns. Feel free to swap them out for wherever (or to whomever) your writing takes you!

This week we’ve got a fantastic duo of characters! You can define them as foils, and let their personalities come out based on how they play off each other. Or don’t. Maybe they’re the main characters, maybe they’re not. You’re the writer. You tell me.

An elderly and fiercely independent widow preparing for the end of her life and the formerly estranged daughter who has been forced to return to her childhood home to assist her. The mother has always been standoffish, unaffectionate, and cold, and the daughter has responded by largely cutting her out of her life. They are each unaware of the other’s vulnerabilities and fixate on the injuries of the past.
